Gergana Vitanova

 Gergana Vitanova's research interests encompass issues of identity, gender, and agency in language learning and teaching. Her articles appear in international journals, such as the Journal of Language, Identity, and Education, Critical Inquiry in Language Studies, Language and Dialogue, System, and others. She has also written the research monograph Authoring the Dialogical Self: Gender, Agency and Language Practices (2010), published by John Benjamins, and co-edited the volumes Dialogues with Bakhtin: New perspectives on second and foreign language learning (2005), published by Routledge, and Theorizing and Analyzing Agency in Second Language Acquisition: Interdisciplinary Perspectives (2015) by Multilingual Matters. She has taught various applied linguistics and ESL courses at Grand Valley State University, Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, Harvard University, and abroad.

Research Interests

Identity, agency, and sociocultural approaches to language learning and teaching, with a special focus on Bakhtin's notion of dialogue; narratives in applied linguistics; English as an international language.
