Keith S. Folse

Keith S. Folse, Ph.D.

Dr. Folse has taught ESL / EFL for 38 years in the US, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Kuwait, and Japan. He has written 68 books on vocabulary, reading, speaking, writing, grammar, and listening, including the popular Keys to Teaching Grammar (University of Michigan Press) and Great Writing series (National Geographic Learning). He has won many teaching and research awards. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses at UCF, including a course on research on vocabulary acquisition in UCF's PhD in TESOL program. He is a frequent presenter at conferences and institutions worldwide, with his most recent international presentations being in Saudi Arabia and Brazil.

  • B.A. in English with Emphasis in TESOL from University of Southern Mississippi (1978)

Second language vocabulary acquisition; ESL grammar; teacher training; best teaching practices.

Dr. Folse's main research and creative interests include:

  • vocabulary in a second language, especially corpus linguistics involving vocabulary and grammar
  • writing more books on the teaching of grammar
  • writing more books on the teaching of vocabulary
  • writing books about the teaching of English abroad
  • best teaching practices
